Groundbreaking

Please Wait... loadig...
From the elevation of the nearby Aztrack, it is easier to make out the shape of the new Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center. Rebar and concrete footings now mark a partial outline of the $11 million facility under construction at 55th Street and Hardy Avenue.
Clearly visible on the 55th Street side of the site is the shape of the new building's rotunda. That's where the main public entrance to the 30,000-square-foot structure will be lined with stone pavers bearing the names of SDSU alumni.
Construction progresses
According to construction manager Steve Nelson ('96) of Mindwest General Inc., underground utility work is finished and concrete pours for a third of the footings are complete. He said steel work is just weeks away.
"You're going to start seeing it go up in the air this month," said Nelson. "And once the steel work starts, it goes up pretty quickly."
The base of the building's elevator shaft is now visible. Architects are working to refine both exterior and interior design elements.
Fall 2009 completion
Although some unexpectedly extensive soil replacement was required during initial work at the site, Nelson said construction is proceeding mostly according to plan. Completion is scheduled by Fall 2009.
